I’ve been helping an acquaintance who works in finance with some wardrobe styling and personal shopping. He practically lives in suits six days a week. When we tackled his closet, he had amazing suits, good taste and quality but the fit and cut were all wrong. Before we even did a lick of shopping, I had him take all of his suits to his tailor to fit and mold them to his frame. A month later when he got them back he realized just how wrong he was in sizing and now he actually enjoys wearing the suits, gets tons of compliments and feels much more confident in them.

This color denim is light enough to wear in summer and can also transition into fall since it falls on the brown spectrum. Blue and black jeans are staples but can get a little monotonous. Variety in denim is good to get a change of routine.

There are days when I thank God that I work in an office environment that allows nice jeans to be worn. As this fellow demonstrates, pairing it with a crisp button down shirt and a good belt makes it look professional without having to be “dressed up”. This outfit combo has saved me many a days headache for getting dressed in the morning.

Sometimes a navy blue suit is the safest bet you can make. Even as the tie is absent, the crisp shirt underneath still makes it all look so pulled together.

The one thing I love about summer in New York is the guys bringing out the colorful chinos. Color is good in the pant area. Any choice would go perfect with a white button down shirt as this gent displays. I also notice the great green leather in his watch straps and the beige in his tassle loafers. Extra points for that thick, slick mane he’s sporting. Such a great haircut. If you got the length and the thickness to pull that style off, I say go for it.

Guys sporting big hair is something I rarely see, so it’s refreshing to capture a coif with some added weight and heft. The clean, fitted, preppy outfit against his already lean and trim frame makes the hair look even grander. He rocks it.

Does Casual Friday’s still exist in office environments? If it does, this is the most pared down it should be I think. Lose the tie and jacket at best, keep the shirt, slacks and decent footwear. Sidebar – every woman I know seems to love a man in pink. Something about pink’s feminine ying to a masculine man’s yang.

I love a splash of red in a suit ensemble, but only in the form of a tie or a pocket square. Ok a red watch band or bracelet would suffice as well.

I love a good blue dress shirt. So crisp, so fresh, so summery. The appeal of this one is the gingham pattern in a more subtle, muted, mini version and the contrast of the solid white placket on one side as well as the inside collar.

If you work in an office that doesn’t require a suit or a tie, here is a clean, fitted, appropriate, professional outfit that looks good any day of the week. Embrace the slimmer fit and pants that literally hug your legs and then make sure the shirt you pair with it is proportioned to the pants. No billowy, blousy, ill fitting shirts.

I’m on the hunt for the perfect square buckle belt. I’m finding that either the metal of the buckle is not up to par or it’s that the leather is not as quality as I’d like it to be. I like how this fellow’s looks a tad worn it, so I guess this is one time I have to go for vintage.

This tie stood out to me because of it’s subtle diamond print and how well the pattern is spaced out on the tie so that it doesn’t look too busy. I also like how it’s a jewel toned color blue against the navy suit.

This fellow reminds me of the caucasian version of myself. I’m pretty much that height and body type,I wear my hair like his, like him, I sport aviators, his monochromatic style of dress is how I do it and without looking at the label I know I own that exact same scarf he’s wearing. I think we look good 🙂

When it’s all over at 6pm for the office workers in the West Village, it’s a great walk in that beautiful area. Nice way to end the day.

This is the second day I’m showcasing a pink shirt on a guy to underscore how great it looks. I especially love it paired with a dark or navy suit. A pink shirt is like a white shirt – it just works.

I’m digging the pink, green and grey color scheme this fella has going on. Nice to see plaid on a jacket for a change as opposed to a winter full of solid colored coats.

Sorry, this post isn’t about the teen boy band, but it is about my new obsession with finding the perfect black, charcoal or dark grey jeans. I saw a pair at BLK DNM in Nolita that are pricey but worth the splurge. This shot is an example of what I’m going for.

They both work at the suit store Acustom Apparel and it got me thinking of wanting to work at a suit store as well to give me a reason to dress like that on a regular basis.:)

I generally don’t play favorites with outfits or pictures I take since I’m very diplomatic, but this guy’s ensemble is a stand out for me. Something about him nailing the spread collar, the lapels and color of the jacket, the hint of red in the pocket square, the brown knit tie, the shades, the cuff of his jeans and monk strap shoes. His precision is off the charts. I hate shopping, but this makes me want to go and replicate this look.

There are some sample sales worth waiting for as well as worth saving for. For the guys, Freemans Sporting Club is one such sale. I was invited to preview the sale during the Friends & Family day held prior to the official opening to the public, which is today, beginning at 10 a.m. Alix Dana, the lovely PR rep was very gracious in asking me to cover their annual Super Bowl sale for the blog. Being as I have been a huge fan and shopper of the store for quite some time, it was a privilege. I brought along Cavan Valance to model and showcase some of the awesome goods you can score for a fraction of the retail price. I even took the liberty of posting a shot of the price list to streamline your shopping experience. Love the way this guy is two fisting it in the more professional manner with a coffee and briefcase from Jack Spade. It’s common sense and somewhat of an unwritten style rule, but blue and brown are two of the best colors to pair together that compliment each other well.

Yesterday’s post Texture was a great all black ensemble. Today’s post shows how to punch up a black base coat of black with some color and some contrast. The all black look can be sharp, sleek and even tough, but pairing black with different hues makes it more relaxed.

It’s all about the detailing of texture here with this fellow’s ensemble. The quilting on his leather jacket, the lining at the knees of his motocross pants and even the netting on his cap are a great way to get playful without overstating or being loud with patterns or prints. His outfit is all black, but with all that texture it saves it from being bland. Digging the white Converse kicks and Gucci belt as well.

Today is a particularly grey day in New York, so I wanted to post a pic with color for some pick me up. I spotted this gent on his phone and his stance seemed all too familiar with him covering his ear while trying to converse to cancel out the racket of loud trucks that were on the street. I feel whenever I have to make a phone call outdoors, I have to find a quiet side street. But enough carping. I like this guy’s arm game with the tatts and the gold watch. It’s also been a while since I’ve seen a t-shirt tucked in the way he does. It’s a rare feat to be able to pull that off, but somehow he gets the proportions right.

I like how he takes this blazer in grey plaid to punch up a very common look of shirt and jeans. Nothing like a little lift to elevate an outfit. This is also my second post of catching a guy with the rarity of earrings. Maybe they’re making a comeback.

Tan, suede desert boots are so right up my alley. I could wear them with everything, even shorts. His are a great color and I like how he keeps them slightly open for a more casual, loose look.

This guy has sort of a Clark Kent/Superman thing going on with the square jaw, suit and eyeglasses. I think his tie does it for me, with one black diagonal stripe against the muted plaid and the grey/black contrast. Handsome tie for a handsome fellow.

I wore a gingham shirt last night to a party which I haven’t worn in a while and it was very flattering. It reminded me to wear it more often and to post a picture of this guy also wearing it well and well into sunset.

This gent’s back was towards me and walking away from me when I spotted him, but luckily he turned around to get something from his car which he forgot and was able to capture his classic, all blue ensemble. For me it’s all about his square belt buckle.

Many things going on here that I appreciate. First off, the belt buckle is a nice design. Secondly, those red sneakers that bring in a dash of color. Third and fourth it’s his eyeglasses and loose blazer with a different colored vest underneath both seemingly in the same fabric family of tweed, respectively. Lastly, the way his jacket collar is popped just ever so slightly with his bag slung around his shoulder carried with such nonchalance.

This is the exact same stance and pose I strike whenever I lean up on wall with my shoulder. For me this guy is all about the subtle details – the buckle and looseness of his belt, the slick of his hair and preppy eyeglasses and of course that all too familiar wall lean.

What’s even better than taking pictures of guys with a good sense of style is when their significant other is just as equally stylish. Two for the price of one. This couple was strolling in the West Village, both looking very put together. For him, it’s yet another example of how every guy should own a navy blue suit. It’s fool proof.

This is what I like to call the cigarette break pose. In addition to his smoke stance, the color of his chinos in that dark green shade is the real appeal here. The matching of his blue shirt and blue shoes is a nice touch.
