Court Action

Court Action

Lower East Side
Chrystie St. Courts

The Basketball courts at Sara Delano Roosevelt Park are a great place to watch pick up games. Street ball in the city is a classic New York staple. Although these courts aren’t as intense and competitive as the West Fourth Courts (The Cage) in the Village, they have their own flavor and attract a more playful, neighborhood vibe.

Ankle Focus

Ankle Focus

Upper East Side
Central Park

This duo is all about what’s happening below the chins. From two tone shoes, to patterned socks and rolled up cuffs, these guys show how to make ankles stylish without being so obvious about it. Also like how they mix solid colors, with each having the contrast of one light color against a darker color.

Beach Days

Beach Days

West Village
6th Ave. and Bedford St.

In the summer, the lines tend to blur with beach attire hitting the concrete streets. I can definitely picture this guy hanging out in Montauk with his very nautical look, swim trunk style shorts and espadrilles-esque Tom’s shoes.

Pastel Tie

Pastel Tie

Midtown
Park Ave. and 53rd St.

Nothing like a good solid colored pastel tie to give a dark suit a lift. It gives just the right amount of contrast.

Blue Plaid

Greenwich Village
Washington Square Park

I own a closet full of plaid button shirts in all variations of the pattern from dressy to casual.  I like this guy’s loose, undone, relaxed quality with his shirt untucked, but not too long and although his khakis have a sharp crease, he also wears his pants with a bit of swag.  Also, notice his hand in a cast, which somehow makes him look cooler. Funny how that works 🙂

Business Class

Business Class

Flatiron District
Lower 5th Ave.

If this is not a polished business class look for flying, then I don’t know what is. But I think all of us could stand to dress up a little more for air travel.

Color Block

Color Block

TriBeCa
Warren St.

Digging his dark grey over grey color block design on his baseball crewneck shirt. He fills it out pretty well also.

Cross Walk

Cross Walk

Upper West Side
Broadway and 72nd

And then there are some guys that can even make waiting for the light to change look good.

City Camouflage

Chelsea
West 23rd St.

This is real camouflage, where his outfit blends in with the scenery.  I’m feeling his cargo pants with the pockets on the front thighs as opposed to the side legs.

Boxy V-Neck

Boxy V-Neck

Meatpacking District
Hudson and 14th St.

This is one in a long line of v-neck shirts I’ve been spotting this summer, but his is slightly different in that it’s bit boxier and a tad looser than others I’ve seen, yet he still manages fill it out well. I guess it’s a testament to his physique that he can do that.

Popped Collar

Popped Collar

Hell’s Kitchen
57th and 9th Ave.

A popped collar on a shirt can seem somewhat pretentious, but this guy makes his convincing and nonchalant.

Dressy Polo

Dressy Polo

TriBeCa
Greenwich and Warren St.

What I found so intriguing with this polo shirt, was that I took this shot in TriBeCa on a Saturday afternoon, with a sea of guys walking around in their lazy, weekend uniform of baggy polo shirts,  oversize cargo shorts and flip flops, but this guy looked so much more polished with his fitted polo, decent pants and suede loafers. And guys, take note; I noticed a lot of women check him out as opposed to the other fellows. Women respond to a well dressed man!

Loose Shorts

Bermuda Shorts

Chelsea
7th Ave and 20th St.

The key to wearing looser fitted shorts is to get the proportions right so they don’t look you’re swimming in them or that they overwhelm your frame. A lot of guys wear shorts way too baggy or add too much bulk with cargo shorts which weighs you down.  If you go loose, keep it clean and balanced like this gent.

Understated

West Village
West 4th and Perry St.

Simple, classic, unfussy, and grown up. Those words spring to mind when I look at this guy’s style.  I love the strength of  his good watch, good crisp white shirt, good glasses, good jeans, good hair. Nothing more, nothing less.

Wind Blown

Wind Blown

Lower Manhattan
Courthouse District

Nothing like capturing a good “wind” shot.  Great fit all around on his business casual look.

The Blues

The Blues

SoHo
Grand and Mercer Sts.

A great all blue ensemble with different shades to break it up. Also shot on one of my favorite blocks in SoHo.

Rolled Up

Rolled Up

Flatiron District
5th Ave and 21st St.

Rolled up pant legs are a nice change of pace from the ubiquity of shorts during the summer.  A nice way to add ventilation yet still being fully dressed.

Man & Meg Ryan

Man & Meg Ryan

SoHo
Prince and Wooster St.

Great example of color blocking in an outfit. I usually sport solid blocks of color like this guy in the summer. I also happened to catch Meg Ryan walking with her daughter as I took this picture.

Stylish Duo

SoHo

Sometimes the best accessory a man can have is a beautiful woman. A stylish man sometimes needs a stylish woman as his counterpart.

Striped Tank

Midtown
Columbus Circle

In a honor of the 4th of July. If you’re going to wear our flag’s colors today, put some personality behind it.

Knicks Fan

Knicks Fan

Midtown
Madison Square Garden

Here’s a great way to remain stylishly casual at a game. You can still be a fan and not be so emphatic with loud, crazy oversize jerseys to support your team of choice.

Flashy Shades

Flashy Shades

Midtown
Park Ave. and 52nd St.

I like how he’s sporting a sharp Midtown suit, with a handsome briefcase but loosens it up just a tad with his flashy oversize sunglasses and just a bit of a break in the pant legs. I never associated Park Avenue with being cool, but he shows how to work it in.

Buttoned Up

Buttoned Up

SoHo
Prince and Lafayette St.

It’s all about the shirt with this fellow – fully buttoned with three pockets. The fitted colored denim is a great shade of blue.
