The Hobbler

The Hobbler

West Village
Hudson and Christopher St.

This is a man after my own heart as his outfit is pretty much a replica of my daily summer ensemble – Nike kicks, black fitted jeans and solid colored t-shirt. I much more clean cut, so I’d forgo the the beard, backpack and crutches.

Scoopneck T-Shirt

Deep Scoop

SoHo
Broome and Wooster St.

Lately I’ve been toying with adding scoopnecks to my collection of t-shirts. I’m partial to a good old fashioned crew neck, but I’ve realized the wider neck adds more ventilation during those super hot days. The key is finding the right width and depth since too much dip tends to make those types of shirts too feminine looking. I think this guy finds the happy medium where it’s not too wide and not too deep.

West Village Weekender

West Village Weekender
West Village
Bleecker and Christopher St.

There is so much about this guy and this couple that is “West Village”. For those of you who live in New York and have observed the clogged streets of the West Village on weekend, you know what I mean – the stroller, the Magnolia Bakery bag, the plaid shirt and black jeans, the Saturday stubble. All the downtown cliches apply, but it does look good.

Black Levi’s

Black Levi's

SoHo
Prince and Sullivan St.

With all the great premium denim out there from Rag & Bone, to J Brand, to A.P.C. et al., sometimes it’s nice to stick to the tried and true classics like Levi’s. As long as you nail the fit and wash, you’re good to go.

Doppelganger

Doppelganger

Greenwich Village
5th Avenue and 11th St.

This fellow reminds me of the caucasian version of myself. I’m pretty much that height and body type,I wear my hair like his, like him, I sport aviators, his monochromatic style of dress is how I do it and without looking at the label I know I own that exact same scarf he’s wearing. I think we look good 🙂

Buttoned Up Polo

Buttoned Up Polo

Nolita
Prince and Mulberry St.

There’s something about buttoning a shirt all the way up that makes it look more “proper”. It’s a different kind of sexy as opposed to leaving a few unbuttoned.

Black Jeans

Black Jeans SoHo
6th Ave. and Spring St.

Last year was all about my grey jeans as my uniform staple which I proceeded to wear the hell out of. I think this spring it’s definitely going to be about a good pair of black or charcoal jeans that I’ll once again allow to mold to my body as I wear them frequently. Here’s an example of a good mold.

Wide Lapels

Wide Lapels

Greenwich Village
University Place and 12th St.

This is one of the bigger, heftier coats I’ve seen this winter. The wide lapels are old school and I’ve seen their re-emergence on coats on a few guys around town lately. I’m digging his printed scarf as well as his navy beanie which matches nicely to the coat.

Fanning Out

Fanning Out

David Spiro
Lower east side/ Extra Place and 1st St.

I was a huge fan of this coat worn by Mr. Spiro on one of our outings. The length, the color, the fabric, the cut and lapels all appealed to my taste. I also dug the fact that he paired it with some black jeans to contrast the lightness of the coat. Also, check out those killer boots he’s wearing.

One Direction

One Direction

Upper East Side
69th and Lex

Sorry, this post isn’t about the teen boy band, but it is about my new obsession with finding the perfect black, charcoal or dark grey jeans. I saw a pair at BLK DNM in Nolita that are pricey but worth the splurge. This shot is an example of what I’m going for.

A Pair of Red Wings

A Pair of Red Wings

Greenwich Village
Thompson and Bleecker

Red Wing boots are functional and stylish at the same time and are simply a great winter boot period. I wouldn’t even mind if a friend of mine was wearing his at the same time. Not into the twins look, but for Red Wings I’d make an exception.

Lessons From A Collar

Lessons From A Collar

SoHo
6th Ave. and Vandam St.

I was consulting a friend the other day about clothes in his closest and when he put on his pea coat I suggested he turn the collar up. When he looked in the mirror he couldn’t believe what a difference it made and how much cooler it made him and the coat look. I’m going to send him this shot to give him another example.

Charlie in TriBeCa

Charlie in TriBeCa

TriBeCa
Franklin and Greenwich Ave.

Stumbled upon the very cool and chill Charlie while strolling with my friend Julie in TriBeCa. He had a preppy, hip hop vibe going on with his Air Jordans, two studs in his ears, shirt buttoned all the way and straight brim hat.

Silver

Silver

West Village
7th Ave. and 12th St.

Digging this man’s quilted, short, spread collar, grey, snap button coat with two different breast pockets. It’s even better that it matches his grey hair on top.

Flashback Friday: Summer Soho Sunset

Flashback Friday: Summer Soho Sunset

SoHo
Broome and Watts St.

For all this cold, debilitating weather we’ve had this past week in New York, I am reminded of one of the best sunsets I witnessed in my ‘hood last summer and as the light was going down, I was fortunate to capture one last shot of the day in the form of this fitted henley.

Cigars at The Mercer

If you’re going to have a cigar outside, I can’t think of a better place to stand outside of and have one. Check out that ski sweater

Leather Bomber

Leather Bomber

Chinatown
Grand and Elizabeth St.

I wonder if his leather jacket is vintage or not. A lot of brands nowadays like to give their clothes that worn-in, old, vintage-y look. Some are successful at it while other brands make it look studied. Or I could be wrong altogether and he purchased it new and had years of wear and tear to give it that lived in look which is how I feel most leather jackets should look.

For Jules

For Jules

Chelsea
7th Ave. and 15th St.

I recently re-connected with my old college friend Julie whom I hadn’t seen in a long time. It was like no time had passed at all during our reunion. On one of our recent outings together we spotted this super cool looking dude. That hat, that leather and those shades mixed with the hoodie and tight black jeans cemented the swagger he was pulling off that day and of course Julie was quite enamored by it all so I dedicate this post to her.

In Love

In Love

Nolita
Prince and Lafayette St.

Happy Holidays to all my faithful viewers and followers. My blog is about style, but it’s also about the love of people. I owe a lot of thanks to all the guys I encounter and meet on the streets and all the people who like to see how I capture them and who take the time to read my posts. This blog wouldn’t exist without your help!

Unzipped Boots

Unzipped Boots

Lower Manhattan
City Hall

Not only did this fellow have his jeans tucked into his boots, but the boots themselves were zipped all the way down so that the top half flopped around. A unique way to anchor the look to say the least. I’ve also never seen a quilted jacket like his with lapels instead of the standard stand up collar or hood.

Throwback Thursday: Actor Dean Winters

Throwback Thursday: Actor Dean Winters

SoHo
Broome Street

I captured the great character actor Dean Winters strolling so freely around the corner from my apartment. I’ve actually been spotting him for years in SoHo, but I never had a blog back then, so it’s fitting that my latest encounter with him last summer be featured here. Do you have a favorite Dean Winters role? I’ve loved him in Sex and the City as Carrie’s fuck buddy (that’s the first time I’ve used the f word on the blog :)), Liz Lemon’s ex-boyfriend, Duffy on 30 Rock and even as the advertising character “Mayhem” in the All State insurance commercials. Ultimately though I will always choose him as Ryan O’Reilly in HBO’s cult prison drama OZ. If you haven’t already, I suggest a binge viewing of that show. Here, he rocks the all black look and I love how he’s without sunglasses, bags and not holding a phone. Go Ryan! I mean Dean. Lol

Plaid Shirt Jacket

Plaid Shirt Jacket

SoHo
West Broadway and Prince St.

I’m surprised I don’t own a shirt and jacket hybrid. It’s the perfect combo and the fact that his is plaid, makes it even more appealing. Maybe I just haven’t encountered the right one. Clothes to me is like attraction – you’ll know it when you see it. You can’t always go looking for it.

U Neck

U Neck

Greenwich Village
6th Ave. and Carmine St.

To add some variety to neck styles in your t- shirts, try a U neck. I like the semi slouchy fit of his with the sleeves slightly rolled. A very downtown look.

Black With A Touch Of Brown

Black With A Touch Of Brown

Chelsea
Seventh Ave.

I love when the all black look gets played during the summer months. It’s hard to come by this time of year with whites, pastels, neons and light colors dominating the streets, but he gives all black credibility in these warmer months. Also like his fitted yet slouchy jeans.

Nice Lips

Nice Lips

SoHo
Prince and Wooster St.

I’m referring to his t-shirt, but you can be drawn to his mouth if you choose so. I prefer graphic tees with pictures rather than words, phrases or witty musings. A picture is worth a thousand words, as the saying goes.

Chinatown Cruise

Chinatown Cruise

Chinatown
Bayard and Mott St.

Some guys can make browsing and shopping on a lazy Sunday afternoon look good. I usually don’t shoot during the weekends, but I happened to have my camera on me as I perused Chinatown and stumbled upon this guy strolling the packed and dense streets and captured the one instance where there wasn’t a mob of people.

Black & Blue

This is a unique take on the denim jacket.  I really like the placement of the pockets and the color combo of black and blue.

Black & White

Black & White

Lower Manhattan
South Street Seaport

The black and white combo is always a safe bet and is such a crisp contrast. I’ve said it in a previous post, that when it comes to the t-shirt, it’s all about the fit. Not too tight, not too loose and most definitely not too long.
