Blue Vest

Blue Vest

SoHo
West Broadway and Broome St.

A vest is something that is just not in my own personal wardrobe vernacular and yet having seen this one it inspires me. I don’t necessarily want one, but seeing how this guy makes it look so fly is worth pondering the purchase of a vest should I ever find one that looks right for me.

Lapel Vest

SoHo
Prince and Mercer St.

This was quite the unique vest this guy was wearing with lapels and all the pockets. I love how thrown together he looks and the small accessory details of his tortoiseshell frames, bracelet, watch and key chain..

Zip Up Vest

Zip Up Vest

Greenwich Village
Thompson and Houston

A few months back I posted a shot of a guy in midtown wearing a black quilted vest who had a more business look related to that part of town. See link below.

In this shot, another quilted black vest is showcased by this fella and his has a more downtown vibe. I’m fond of how each vest represents their respective ‘hood.

Lunch Hour

MMLunch Hour
Midtown East
Park Avenue and 55th St.

You want suit action in New York? Stand on Park Avenue in the 50′s any weekday during lunch hour to get an embarrassment of riches. I wasn’t even looking to take pictures while I was on my way to an appointment in the area, but the suits were coming at me from all sides

Man and Manhattan: Sean Avery

Man and Manhattan: Sean Avery

Sean Avery
Nolita/Cafe Gitane

I spotted former New York Rangers, HHL star Sean Avery having brunch outside Cafe Gitane on a warm December day this past Sunday. I’ve always viewed Mr. Avery as the epitome of the “man about town” – young, cool, stylish, urbane, handsome, always seemingly has a beautiful woman on his arm (currently engaged to Victoria’s Secret model Hilary Rhoda). He is famous for sure, but is no world superstar, so he blends in perfectly with other New Yorkers and is not one of those tacky celebs. Sean is not your typical jock since he’s well known for his cool sense of style and ties to the fashion world and his ability to dabble in worthy projects. He has interned at Vogue, guest judged on Project Runway, has helped to open cool downtown restaurants that New Yorkers actually eat at, not tourists, is a huge supporter of marriage equality and gay rights and upon googling him, one of his best pals is gay icon Andy Cohen. Sunday’s brunch outfit was a black and white combo with his tats showing to take advantage of the spring like temperatures.

Grocery Day

Grocery Day

West Village
West 4th and Barrow St.

There is some great layering going on with this fella’s outfit. Different colors, patterns and textures all add up to weight and heft in his outfit without the bulk. The green, blue and brown combo also give nice visual stimulation.

Black Quilted Vest

Black Quilted Vest

Midtown East
54th and Lexington

Typically midtown is swarming with business casual looks and suits. The obligatory button down shirt with slacks combo leaves not much room for diversity, so as it gets colder, it’s up to the warm layer gear to do the work . The quilted vest here with various pockets, zippers, snap buttons and stand up collar, adds texture to his conservative outfit.

Blazer & Vest

Blazer & Vest

Greenwich Village
6th Ave. and 8th St.

Many things going on here that I appreciate. First off, the belt buckle is a nice design. Secondly, those red sneakers that bring in a dash of color. Third and fourth it’s his eyeglasses and loose blazer with a different colored vest underneath both seemingly in the same fabric family of tweed, respectively. Lastly, the way his jacket collar is popped just ever so slightly with his bag slung around his shoulder carried with such nonchalance.

Cardigan & Vest

Cardigan & Vest

SoHo
Spring and Wooster

These two gents are all about their top layer – specifically ones with a v formation and a row of buttons. The cardigan is a perfect layering piece if it’s too warm for a jacket but just chilly enough for a second skin of clothing. The vest is more decorative, but gives an outfit just a hint of formality.

Same Guy, Different Day

Financial District
Wall St.

I encountered this guy on two separate occasions weeks apart on the very same block. In one instance he reminds me of Michael Douglas in the film Wall Street, which incidentally is the street where both of these pictures were shot and in the other instance he’s just being a dude tossing a football around with his buddy. That’s what’s great about New York, as much as it’s about how you never know who you’ll run into, it’s also about how you never know who you’ll run into again.
