Grunge

Grunge

Upper East Side
68th and Lexington

Back in the early 90’s the term and style of grunge was all the rage. Like all fads, trends, styles and fashions it’s due for an updated comeback. Not that I have seen enough evidence to support a comeback but this guy’s outfit with the loose flannel plaid shirt, baggy shorts and mismatched socks certainly reflects the style.

Stitched Blazer

Stitched Blazer

Upper East Side
87th and Lexington

I really like the design of this guy’s jacket because it’s something you rarely see – a quilted/stitched blazer jacket. Having a classic piece with just a bit of a twist can really set you apart and make a world of difference.

One Direction

One Direction

Upper East Side
69th and Lex

Sorry, this post isn’t about the teen boy band, but it is about my new obsession with finding the perfect black, charcoal or dark grey jeans. I saw a pair at BLK DNM in Nolita that are pricey but worth the splurge. This shot is an example of what I’m going for.

Inside Job

From Inside

Upper East Side
Dean & Deluca/ 85th and Madison

I was scarfing down a bagel and having an espresso at the Dean & Deluca food shop on the Upper East Side when I realized I was sitting in the perfect corner window to people watch and take pictures. I was off to an appointment so I only managed to get this one shot of this guy adjusting his hood. Not bad for only sitting there a few minutes.

I like how the wording on his t-shirt is modeled after the Superman logo, naturally 🙂

Ankle Focus

Ankle Focus

Upper East Side
Central Park

This duo is all about what’s happening below the chins. From two tone shoes, to patterned socks and rolled up cuffs, these guys show how to make ankles stylish without being so obvious about it. Also like how they mix solid colors, with each having the contrast of one light color against a darker color.

High Above The Knee

High Above The Knee

Upper East Side
Central Park

Here’s a fellow who is not afraid to show off a little leg. White shorts in particular are a good way to draw attention to your legs, but he ups the ante by picking a pair that is fitted and close to his thighs and the length falls a good distance away from his knee caps.  If you’ve got ’em, flaunt ’em.

Briefcase

Briefcase

Upper East Side
Madison Ave. and East 65th St.

I don’t own, nor have ever owned a briefcase in my life, but if I ever purchased one, something tells me it would look like the one this gentleman is carrying. The color is bold yet tasteful, the leather looks rich, soft and sumptuous, the design is elegant and classic and it looks bloody expensive which any great briefcase should look like.

Bag Man

Bag Man

Upper East Side
5th Ave. and 84th St.

I wasn’t able to decipher if the bag he was carrying belonged to him or if he was holding it for his girlfriend (not pictured). Some accessories are designed to be considered unisex. I wonder if this bag qualifies. I’ve also been noticing subtle tattoos on guys, which he’s inked with on his inner forearm.

Crowd Spotted

Crowd Spotted

Upper East Side
Metropolitan Museum of Art

Certain areas of New York are prime for crowds and people watching. The steps of The Met definitely qualify.  I was sitting on the steps for a good while before anything caught my eye. I guess because hordes of tourists aren’t particularly the most stylish, so it’s great to capture the few who are and who stand out amidst the crowd.  I spotted this guy with his cool oval shaped shades, double breast pocket button down and backwards cap and simple wrist wear of bracelets.  He looks very cosmopolitan and would look good in any major city.

Orange T

The simplicity of a solid colored t-shirt is a good way to stay classic. This guys fills his shirt out pretty well.
