Neon Shirt

TriBeCa
6th Avenue and Laight St.

Brighter days are here again and so is brighter apparel. Neon in my wardrobe usually finds itself in very subtle ways – shoe laces, on a small logo, or a pocket and usually on some form of athletic gear. If you do wear it, it’s best to stick to just one item as you can clearly see it stands out and speaks for itself.

Neon Sweater

Neon Sweater

SoHo
Broome and Lafayette

I was inside the menswear store Odin in Soho perusing the racks of drool worthy clothes and labels and afterwards, when I stepped out I ran into this visitor from Australia who let me talk his picture after I complimented his waffle like, bright neon sweater. He even urged me to peek at the tag on the back of his sweater to read the label since he couldn’t remember where he got it offhand and lo and behold it was from the British brand Folk who were prominently displayed in Odin. I guess it was kismet.

Zip Up Vest

Zip Up Vest

Greenwich Village
Thompson and Houston

A few months back I posted a shot of a guy in midtown wearing a black quilted vest who had a more business look related to that part of town. See link below.

In this shot, another quilted black vest is showcased by this fella and his has a more downtown vibe. I’m fond of how each vest represents their respective ‘hood.

In The Hood

Chelsea
9th Ave. and 22nd St.

The way he was wearing his hoodie seemed less functional and more about style. He could have very well been cold, but something tells me this was more about looking good, which he accomplished.

Flash of Neon

Flash of Neon

NoLita
Spring and Mulberry Sts.

The last couple of years, I’ve been noticing the the neon/fluorescent trend flourish. While it has died down considerably the last few years (thank God), I’ve realized that it actually looks reasonably good if it’s done in small doses, like this guy, who uses it sparingly in part of the frame of his sunglasses and sneakers. If you’re going to do it, tread lightly.

Running Tank

Running Tank

Midtown
7th Ave. and 28th St.

I could shoot a whole blog on runner’s in New York, but I’ll leave that niche to another blogger. Running is one instance where I advocate going sleeveless.

Pre-Work Ensemble

Pre-Work Ensemble

The Village
13th Street

This was at 9 a.m. on a particularly humid weekday morning. I overheard this guy tell his girlfriend as he passed that he didn’t want to get his shirt “soaked” before heading into the office. Even if he was more concerned with his physical comfort rather than the care for his garment, I admire the thoughtfulness.
