NYPD

Financial District

Sometimes even the cops in the city like to display their personality. This is not your typical coffee and doughnut officer as he looks more like a personal trainer, although right before this shot, I did spy him wolfing down a bag of those long, stringy, neon colored sour candies. But hey, we all have our vices. Check out the cool tattoo over his bicep.

The other Wall St.

The other Wall St.

Financial District
Wall St.

Not every guy on Wall St. rocks a tie or suit. It is also a residential neighborhood, so you have your locals, like this guy, grabbing coffee, and most likely not going to an investment firm. I have an oxymoron for you: loose fitted jeans. What I really mean is jeans that aren’t too baggy or too fitted. They fall in that perfect middle ground. I think this guy nails it with his grey jeans. I’m also a huge fan of grey jeans and plaid shirts. It’s a bit of a uniform for me.

Bow Tie

Bow Tie

Financial District
Nassau St.

Notice how all the lighter colors of this guy’s outfit are on the top half, while the darker tones are on the bottom. A bit of an even contrast here. I personally never like to wear a bow tie unless it’s for a formal occasion, but some guys don’t need a tux to wear bring one out. Might I add, he’s also exemplifying some great posture. Being and looking cool doesn’t always have to result in being slouchy, hunched over or slovenly. Standing upright commands respect and authority. Is that what our mothers meant when they told us to stand up straight as kids? I think I just answered my own question.

Contrast

Contrast

Purple is a color I rarely see on a guy, so it was refreshing to see it displayed here on this guy’s tie contrasted against his grey suit. All it takes is that one bit of contrast to perk a suit up. Pretty cool haircut he’s sporting as well and added bonus to see a guy smiling for a change.

Sheen

This gentleman’s suit is pretty slick because there is a hint of sheen to it and navy blue and brown is one of my favorite color combos. There are so many great details here with the polka dot tie, juxtaposed against his checked shirt, the white pocket square and the added layer of the vest and the tan brown wingtip shoes, yet in no way does it look too busy. Even the wall he’s standing against matches!

Same Guy, Different Day

Financial District
Wall St.

I encountered this guy on two separate occasions weeks apart on the very same block. In one instance he reminds me of Michael Douglas in the film Wall Street, which incidentally is the street where both of these pictures were shot and in the other instance he’s just being a dude tossing a football around with his buddy. That’s what’s great about New York, as much as it’s about how you never know who you’ll run into, it’s also about how you never know who you’ll run into again.
