Weekday Weekend

Slow Week 054 copy
NoHo
Lafayette and Great Jones St.

Having a day off during the week can feel like you’re on holiday. Walking around the streets you get a sense of others who are in the same position, running errands, leisurely reading in coffee shops, walking dogs etc. But mostly it’s the sense that you can dress down a bit, like this fella sporting the athletic-preppy-day off look.

Shirt Over Shirt

Slow Week 433 copy

SoHo
West Broadway and Grand St.

I totally advocate a short sleeve t-shirt underneath an open button down shirt with the sleeves rolled up. It’s one of my summer uniforms and favorite ways to layer, with the need for that extra layer for all that hardcore air conditioning and once venturing back out into the heat, you can just wrap it around your waist.

Purple Shorts

Purple Shorts

Chelsea
7th Avenue and 21st St.

Shorts going well above the knee is really appealing to me right now. It’s time for a comeback after years of baggy, below the knee and wide shorts. If you’ve been hitting the gym and working the legs, might as well show ’em off.

Just when you think you can put away the shorts and tees for fall, the weather hits a balmy 70+ degrees.

A gold crucifix necklace is not your typical everyday fashion accessory. But then again, some things are beyond fashion

Ankle Show-er

Ankle Show-er

Union Square
5th Ave. and 15th St.

Rolled up pants are all over the city, but I’ve never seen an example so emphatic on the reveal of the ankle.

Bros

Bros

West Village
Bedford and Downing

The close cropped hair, the clean cut looks, the casual t-shirts, the khaki shorts and sandals and boat shoes – these guys have preppy “bros” written all over them.

Purple Dress Shirt

Purple Dress Shirt

West Village
Jackson Square

If we’re going to be accurate, the shirt color is more lavender than purple. Don’t be afraid of the word lavender guys, since you can see it looks great.

Pre-Work Ensemble

Pre-Work Ensemble

The Village
13th Street

This was at 9 a.m. on a particularly humid weekday morning. I overheard this guy tell his girlfriend as he passed that he didn’t want to get his shirt “soaked” before heading into the office. Even if he was more concerned with his physical comfort rather than the care for his garment, I admire the thoughtfulness.

Sandy Chinos

Sandy Chinos

Chelsea
9th Ave. and 23rd St.

Chinos/Khakis usually come in the base color of beige, but I like when they’re given a bit more saturation. The brown tone of his chinos is one of those colors you’re always on the look out for but can rarely find. I need my browns to be the perfect shade of brown – LOL

Marooned

Marooned

SoHo
Spring and West Broadway

Maroon is a color so good that I wish I saw more of it, but because it’s so good, I’m glad I don’t see more of it, since it could be an overkill trend if the masses caught on. It’s a nice dark alternative to black or navy blue and looks great with a lighter color to give it balance, just like how this guy wears it.

High Above The Knee

High Above The Knee

Upper East Side
Central Park

Here’s a fellow who is not afraid to show off a little leg. White shorts in particular are a good way to draw attention to your legs, but he ups the ante by picking a pair that is fitted and close to his thighs and the length falls a good distance away from his knee caps. ┬áIf you’ve got ’em, flaunt ’em.

Here is a guy that reminds me of a Kennedy brother where he looks like he should be out in Newport R.I., sailing on the Atlantic and looking as preppy as can be.

Bag Man

Bag Man

Upper East Side
5th Ave. and 84th St.

I wasn’t able to decipher if the bag he was carrying belonged to him or if he was holding it for his girlfriend (not pictured). Some accessories are designed to be considered unisex. I wonder if this bag qualifies. I’ve also been noticing subtle tattoos on guys, which he’s inked with on his inner forearm.
